PUBLIC NOTICE Notice is hereby given that the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center proposes to remodel 24,800 square feet of laboratory and clinical trials space of an 110,000 square foot Cancer Research and Treatment Center (CRTC) building on the north campus utilizing Federal funds. The CRTC facility will convert to the Clinical and Translational Sciences Center (CTSC) upon completion of their replacement facility. Within the areas indicated for renovation, work includes reorganization of existing lab and office spaces to create larger open lab plans with centralized support spaces. Work also includes improving ventilation, environmental conditions and power and special systems within the renovation zone. In addition, the areas to be renovated will address creating efficiencies in space organization and address ADA compliance issues. As part of this project, a new fire suppression system will be installed on the second and third floors to improve the life safety of the Researchers. The Health Sciences Center has evaluated the environmental and community implications of the proposed construction. There will not be construction noise but may be a small amount of increased construction traffic during the construction period around March 2010. No significant permanent environmental impact is foreseen. All building permits and zoning approvals will be obtained as required. In accordance with Federal Executive Order 11514, which implements the NEPA of 1969, any individual or group may comment on, or request information concerning, the environmental implications of the proposed project. Communications should be addressed to UNM Planning and Campus Development, and be received by May 19, 2009.
